Hello everyone!

  • What is this blog about? This blog is about the topic "The Family".  It includes a lesson plan based on the topic, as well as some educational activities.  
  • Which is the target population?  The target population is students of fifth school year.

Why is this blog about "The Family"?


This blog is about  "The Family" because it is a relevant topic that takes part of all people lives.  For that reason, it is important for students to know about the names that refers to their family members and the relationships among them. 

What is the average time to develop the topic? 

The average time to develop the topic is about  5 lessons.  



What are the main purposes?

The general objective is:
  • To know about the members of the family. 

The specific objectives are: 
  • To name the members of the family. 
  • To describe the members of the family. 


What are the educational activities?

The educational activities will be presented in the following order: 

  • Introductory activities (1 lesson):  video and Power Point presentation
First, the teacher will show a video from Youtube about pictures and the pronunciation of the name of the members of the family.  After that, the teacher will show a Power Point presentation that includes pictures and the name in English of the members of the family, as well as a description of each image using the structure This is… or These are… 

  • Development activities (3 lessons):  Family album
First, the teacher will ask students to bring photos of their family members.  Then, the students will make a family album using the program Power Point.  They will include the photos and the vocabulary of family members in the slides. If some students do not have photos of their family, they will be able to download pictures from internet.  Finally, the students will make an oral presentation in which they will describe the members of their family. 
  • Completion activities:  games 

Students will play an educational game which includes a puzzle, a match, and a letter soup of the members of the family. In the puzzle game, the students will arrange the pieces of the puzzle to form the picture of a family.  In the match game, the students will match vocabulary of the members of the family with its corresponding picture.  In the letter soup, students will find 9 words related to the members of the family.  Each time, they find a word, an image related to that word will appear.     


Note:  all the activities described before can be developed individually, in pairs or in groups.  





What are the evaluation strategies?


Evaluation strategies
  • Words, phrases and sentences imitation through repetition.
The students will listen to the correct pronunciation of the names of the family members in the video and the Power Point presentation.  Then, they will repeat the words.  Besides that, the correct pronunciation of these words will be checked in the exposition of the Family album.
  • Games solving
The students will apply their knowledge to solve the puzzle, match, and letter soup games.
